Nokia N95 and a mic
Video journalism, Web video Comments (0)
As commented on my old post called “Mobile and journalism” I have tried to setup a microphone with my Nokia N95 enabling this mobile device on a real journalist Swiss knife.
Having a microphone adapted with this device you will enable a correct audio quality, knowing that is the key point to enhace the quality of you final video package.
I thought that it was an easy task tom plug a min into the Nokia N95 (jack input) but it’s not. Mainly this device accept 3 options using the jack input: Headphones, Headset and TV out.
I you buy a mic with a jack connector it will not work because the Nokia N95 take it as a headphones (based on the connectivity). The only way to use a mic with the Nokia N 95 is to use the mic with the Headset option.
You need to adapt a 3 rings jack mic to a 4 ring jack input.
Of course you could adapt it by doing as showed on this video by using the cables coming with your Nokia N95 but really, do you see moving and doing an interview with all cables and adaptators?

The best and easiest solution is to adapt a 3 rings mic to a 4 rings connector using an adaptator, I have found a website showing a solution but I was unable to find this adaptator on any online shop.
So I have decided to build my own adaptator as showed here below:
It is mainly adapting a 3 poles jack microphone plug to a male 4 poles jack plug which is very common on mobile devices.
You need a 4 poles male plug, a 3 pole female plug and a cable.
